Chat is a microblogging social network that promotes itself as a defender of "freedom of expression", with limited rules of moderation.
Like the Parler app, this alternative to Facebook and Twitter is used primarily in the United States by far-right people, white supremacists, believers in conspiracy theory QAnon and by neo-Nazis.
The far right's favorite social network
Gab was founded in 2016 for Andrew Torba, Trump supporter and self-described “conservative republican christian”. A pair of bag, Gab's mission is to facilitate freedom of expression online and where supporters of all ideologies are welcome.
Since its launch, the platform has been blocked by big tech companies. Apple blocked it for pornographic content and hate speech. Google did the same by removing the app from the Play Store. Incluso Stripe, PayPal and Godaddy expelled Gab for racist and anti-Semitic posts.
On 2018 took center stage as the social platform used by the shooter of the attack on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh to spread anti-Semitic messages, before killing 11 people.
But Gab's massive popularity came after Twitter and Facebook suspended Donald Trump's accounts for spreading lies and inciting violence.. From here, and after blocking the Parler app for the Great technology, the platform experienced a significant increase in users. In fact, It was the social network to which Donald Trump and his followers migrated.
For its creator, Gab is the most pro-privacy platform on the Internet, where they don't believe that “the answer to disagreements is censorship, but more dialogue and more debate”. Although those “disagreements” are hate speech and lies.
